Pics up: AAD invades Hermanus (per Fb)

A Group Photo of the AAD Members who made the trip
All About Datsun was invited to invade Hermanus during the Hermanus Whale Festival on Saturday, 21 September 2013 - participating in an annual Wheels 'n Whales Classic Car Show. As part of AAD's participation the local Nissan dealer planned to release the new Datsun and/or the new Nissan Sentra. However due to a very rainy week prior to the event, no display space was available per the Classic Car Show.

Our day started quite early as we planned to meet at the Engen 1-Stop on the N2 just before Somerset West - about 6am for 06:30am. Clive arranged to meet the members there and plan for the route ahead - also meeting a second wave of members from the Wellington / Paarl / Stellenbosch areas. Even though it was quite chilly and wet, 17 rides made it in time to the 1-Stop... This group pushed forward at the designated time to meet the other members, who gathered just outside Somerset West at another garage...

What a site met us there as that group lined up to take the road toward Hermanus.

A bit of confusion came in as members wanted to park and align as one group, but due to the size a decision was quickly made to push on towards our goal, as we would have taken up the road and disturbed traffic too much.

The trip over Sir Lowry's Pass was such a treat as the members pushed their rides uphill and enjoyed the various downhill turns. You could truly appreciate your rear wheeler trying to find grip on the wet road... A 2nd stop was made just after the pass to guide members towards the correct turn-off towards Hermanus. Seeing the various examples of Datsun's on offer purring down the pass still gives me a little smirk! :-)

The final stretch towards our destination flew past in a blur as members gave some stick to their accelerators and just enjoyed the ride. Finding the school who hosted the event was also a breeze (perhaps due to proper planning) and the rides lined up for the event. In total 38 Datsun's lined up and truly showed Hermanus its All About Datsun!

Its quite an achievement and I have to take my hat off to the members and their incredible rides. The average distance most members travelled was about 160kms (100miles). Not bad for rides from the '70's - if you think that no major breakdowns occurred (even on the trip back home). A special note of thanks must be said to the Group who attended the event from MosselBay (some 350-400km away)(about 220-250miles away).

The sun managed to break through as the day progressed... and fun was held by all... a few things could have been planned a tad better, but these teething issues can probably be expected. Members should start thinking as to what they'd like from this MOVEMENT called ALL ABOUT DATSUN... especially in terms of CHARITY EVENTS and how we can give back to the community.

We'd like to get together in October for a social event and plans are underway for a charity run to Tulbach in November... so watch this space...

Remember: Its ALL About Datsun... Its our Lifestyle!!!
