Planned event: Toy Run, PAARL, 16 December 2013

As part of All About DATSUN "giving back to the community" a Toy Run is planned on the public holiday Monday, 16 December 2013. This event is planned in conjunction with "A Mother's Touch" who will re-distribute the toys in the Mbekweni, Paarl & Wellington Areas. Come and show your support!!

Event: Port Elizabeth Meet 'n Greet

On Saturday, 23rd November 2013, All About Datsun branched out with a Meet 'n Greet in Port Elizabeth. This was the brainchild of Clint van der Baai, one of our latest AAD Representatives. Datsun owners from around PE was invited to attend at the Cleary Park Shopping Centre from 12h00 - and by the looks of things it was an event to remember!

Nissan IDX 510 Concept - Tokyo Motor Show

I can't recall when last we have had such a lot of discussions in the Group about Nissan / Datsun - perhaps with the planned release of the "new Datsun" when we were all dissapointed at the planned Datsun Go? At the recent Tokyo Motor Show 2013 Nissan (Datsun) unveiled a new concept (based on the previous P510 we all love) - the IDX Freeflow and the IDX Nismo Concept Cars.

In my opinion this could be one of my favorite runs that I've experienced with the club. The weather for the day was perfect, the attendance was amazing and a few "new" cars & drivers attended. The route we chose took us through scenic parts of Table Mountain with amazing views via Rhodes Drive.

All About Datsun was invited to invade Hermanus during the Hermanus Whale Festival on Saturday, 21 September 2013 - participating in an annual Wheels 'n Whales Classic Car Show. As part of AAD's participation the local Nissan dealer planned to release the new Datsun and/or the new Nissan Sentra. However due to a very rainy week prior to the event, no display space was available per the Classic Car Show.

Update: Hermanus Whale Run

Hey there AAD Family,

We're getting closer to the Hermanus Whale Run planned for Saturday, 21 September 2013. Now is the time to answer some of those questions you have been wanting to ask...



First off, a large portion of the group plan to meet at 6:00am at the Engen 1-Stop on the N2 on the morning of the run. This group will leave the 1-Stop at 06:30am to try and avoid the chaos in traffic. We plan to meet up with a second group leaving from Wellington / Paarl / Stellenbosch through Somerset West, perhaps just before taking the Sir Lowry's Pass.

Second, the Whales 'n Wheels Classic Car Show will be held at Hermanus Primary School. It is located in the centre of Hermanus, just off Main Street (C/O Royal 'n Impala Streets).

Third: The Whales 'n Wheels Classic Car Show plans to run from 09:00 - 17:00 (with Gates opening at 07:00 for participants). The organisers expect in about 250+ vintage and classic cars, with many new vehicles from various Hermanus Car Dealers - the new Datsun will also be released on the day, now "National Nissan Day." The school hall will host an exhibition of scale model cars, radio controlled helicopters and Dream Trains from Bloemfontein. Not forgetting a selection of vehicles in a parade through Hermanus at 10:00 to give the public a sneak view of what's on display at the Show.

Lastly: There'll be live music, variety of food stalls and something to keep the whole family entertained. For non-participants, Entry fee is R20 for adults, and all children under 12years accompanied by a paying adult will be free.

So let's go and show Hermanus and its visitors what ALL ABOUT DATSUN is all about!

Datsun returns...

On Monday, 15 July 2013, the name DATSUN will be making a come-back - having its "World-wide Premiere" - from India (of all places). The countdown has begun....

 

 

Question is: Is this new Datsun going to be as good as what we've come to expect from our rides over the years? What will happen with those rigid lines, the "SSS" branding, rear-wheel drive and general fun factor we experience (daily) with our rides. Or, are we just nostalgic? Isn't it about time the brand comes back and has a facelift? All in the name of obtaining a new, younger market... even though if you look at the various ages of Datsun lover's all over... it makes you wonder...

Have you taken a peek at the new design, including the (blue-ish) badging? Does this strike the same cord with you? Does it give you that same "I (heart) DATSUN" feeling? Would you buy one?

Idea with this Blog

The idea of this blog is to have a central place we can all meet and see some of our favourite rides.... We'd like to feature AAD Member Datsun's... If possible, we'll try and have some nice (photo)shoots set-up, but we'd like to invite all members to feel free to share some of their rides and pictures here... Perhaps a driver-'n-ride profile.

We're also planning to host some builds if we can, car of the month, upcoming events, park-offs - all Datsun inspired - all for your eager eyes - all to fill the Datsun urge!

So? What do you think? Can we make this work?

Why Datsun?

When I created this collage, I had an idea on a post per the FB Group All About Datsun where I asked members how it came about that they drive and love the Datsun brand so much.

• Is it a family affair?
• Were you introduced into the brand?
• Did you see a specific ride that motivated you to get one?

Some interesting stories came to light. Some had Datsuns as the first owners, as their first cars, inheriting these rides, falling in love with Datsuns as they grew up... In the end, we can all attest that this is a brand that's stood the test of time... All of this resulted in the idea for a blog... and here we are!

Let's hope that one day Datsun will be true to its heritage and bring out an updated Old Skool ride.
